Ahmedabad Launches Major Urban Green Push, Targets Planting of 50 Lakh Trees

June 5: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has announced an ambitious urban greening initiative aimed at planting 50 lakh trees across the city as part of a broader effort to improve air quality and expand green cover.

The initiative was launched by the Gujarat Chief Minister, who highlighted the importance of sustainable urban development and climate-resilient cities. The drive is expected to strengthen the city’s environmental infrastructure while enhancing public health and ecological balance.

Under the programme, large-scale plantation will be carried out across parks, roadsides, public spaces, and urban clusters, with active participation from civic bodies, local communities, and environmental groups.

Officials said the initiative forms part of a long-term vision to make Ahmedabad a greener, cleaner, and more livable urban centre, while contributing to Gujarat’s broader climate action goals.
