Bhubaneswar, May 13: The Central government has approved an outlay of ₹544 crore for the development of three bypass corridors in Bhubaneswar, a major infrastructure push aimed at reducing chronic traffic congestion in the rapidly expanding city.
The project is designed to divert heavy and long-distance vehicles away from busy urban stretches, helping ease pressure on core city roads that currently face frequent bottlenecks during peak hours. Officials expect the new corridors to significantly reduce travel time, improve road safety, and make daily commuting smoother for residents.
The proposed bypass routes will strengthen connectivity around key entry and exit points of Bhubaneswar, allowing faster movement of goods vehicles and reducing their dependence on internal city roads. This is expected to improve overall traffic flow while also lowering pollution levels caused by long traffic delays.
Authorities have highlighted that the project is part of a broader plan to upgrade urban infrastructure in line with the city’s growing population and rising vehicle density.
