Puri, Sept. 24 (UDN): A large tree was uprooted on the Jatani-Pipili main road near Mathasahi in Odisha’s Puri district on Thursday, disrupting vehicular movement for nearly two hours amid heavy rain and gusty winds.
The tree fell near Pallavi School at Mathasahi and blocked the entire road, bringing traffic to a standstill in both directions. Several vehicles were left stranded on either side of the affected stretch as commuters waited for the obstruction to be removed.
Traffic Disrupted
The incident occurred as persistent rainfall and strong winds lashed the area. The fallen tree completely covered the carriageway, preventing vehicles travelling between Jatani and Pipili from passing through.
The disruption led to congestion on the busy route and caused considerable inconvenience to commuters.
No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
Fire Services Clear Fallen Tree
Following information about the road blockage, a Fire Services team reached the spot and began clearing the fallen tree.
Due to its size, the tree had to be cut into smaller sections before the trunk and branches could be removed from the road. The clearance operation continued for some time, during which traffic remained affected.
Once the debris was cleared, vehicular movement resumed gradually on the Jatani-Pipili road.
The incident comes amid continued heavy rainfall and strong winds in several parts of Odisha, with weather-related disruptions, including tree falls and waterlogging, reported from different areas.
