India Will Not Bow to Pressure, Says PM Modi While Recalling 1998 Pokhran Tests

New Delhi, May 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday cited the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests as a landmark moment in India’s history, saying they reflected the nation’s strength, confidence, and independent decision-making.

Addressing a public event, the Prime Minister said India demonstrated its resolve in 1998 by taking bold strategic decisions despite global pressure. He added that no external force can make India compromise on its sovereignty or national interests.

Referring to Operation Shakti, the nuclear tests conducted in Pokhran, Rajasthan, he said the event strengthened India’s position as a responsible and self-reliant nation in the global arena.

The Prime Minister stressed that India continues to move forward with a focus on self-reliance in defence, technology, and national development, guided by long-term strategic clarity.

He further said that the country’s progress is rooted in resilience and determination, and India will continue to make decisions independently in the interest of its people.
