Mumbai Airport Earns Highest Sustainability Rating for Zero Waste to Landfill Performance

Mumbai, May 11,: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), operated by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL), has been awarded the “Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWL) Platinum – Class I Rating” by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), recognising its strong commitment to sustainable waste management practices.

The certification highlights the airport’s effective systems for waste segregation, recycling, and resource recovery, which have significantly reduced the volume of waste sent to landfills.

CSMIA has introduced multiple green initiatives across its operations, focusing on environmental sustainability, efficient resource use, and reducing its overall ecological footprint.

Airport authorities said the recognition reflects their continued efforts to build and operate environmentally responsible infrastructure at one of India’s busiest aviation hubs.

The ZWL Platinum rating is among the highest industry benchmarks for excellence in waste management and sustainability performance.
