President Droupadi Murmu Calls for More Citizen-Centric, Sensitive Policing

Gangtok, Sikkim, May 28: President of India Droupadi Murmu today conferred the prestigious President’s Police Colour on the Sikkim Police at a ceremonial “Alankaran Parade” held at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok.

With this honour, Sikkim becomes the 15th state in India and the third in the North Eastern region to receive the distinction, which is considered the highest ceremonial recognition awarded to a police force in the country for exceptional service, discipline, and dedication.

Addressing the event, the President urged police personnel to adopt a more citizen-centric approach and emphasized the importance of sensitivity while dealing with the public, particularly women, children, and economically vulnerable groups. She also highlighted the growing challenges faced by law enforcement, including cybercrime, online fraud, and deepfake-related offences, calling for greater preparedness and the use of modern technology to tackle these threats.

The President appreciated the role of the Sikkim Police in maintaining law and order in the state and commended their efforts in disaster response and management.

Officials said the award reflects the force’s consistent performance, professionalism, and commitment to public service over the years.
