June 6: The Tamil Nadu Forest Department has intensified monsoon vigilance in Gudalur by stepping up wildlife monitoring and strengthening preventive measures to reduce human-animal conflict during the rainy season.
With increased rainfall leading to changes in animal movement patterns, forest officials have enhanced surveillance across vulnerable zones to ensure the safety of both wildlife and local communities. Special attention is being given to forest fringes, human settlements near reserve areas, and known wildlife corridors.
Officials have deployed additional field staff and increased patrolling activities in key forest stretches to closely monitor the movement of elephants, leopards, and other wild animals. Early warning systems and rapid response teams have also been activated to address any emergency situations arising from wildlife intrusion into residential areas.
The department is also working closely with local communities to raise awareness about safety precautions during the monsoon season. Residents in forest-adjacent areas have been advised to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary movement during early morning and late evening hours, and promptly report wildlife sightings to forest authorities.
