New Delhi, Aug 25: India’s Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have made a significant climb in the latest badminton world rankings after their historic bronze-medal performance at the BWF World Championships.
The Indian women’s doubles pair has moved 12 places from No. 39 to No. 27, recording the biggest ranking jump among women’s doubles pairs in the top 50.
The ranking boost follows an impressive campaign in New Delhi, where the unseeded Indian duo defeated higher-ranked opponents to reach the semifinals and secure a World Championships medal.
Their quarterfinal victory over China’s Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian proved particularly important, as the win sent the Indian pair into the last four and guaranteed a medal.
Treesa and Gayatri eventually secured bronze after losing their semifinal against defending champions Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning of China in three games. Their performance nevertheless marked a major milestone for Indian women’s doubles badminton.
The latest ranking rise gives the pair additional momentum as they continue their international campaign. Moving into the world’s top 30 also strengthens their position among the leading women’s doubles combinations on the international circuit.
The breakthrough at the World Championships and the subsequent rankings jump underline the progress of the Indian duo and provide a strong platform for further success in upcoming international tournaments.
