Mangaluru, May 28: More than 80 surfers from six states are set to participate in the Indian Open of Surfing 2026, which will be held in Mangalore, marking one of the country’s key competitive surfing events this year.
The event will bring together athletes from across India to compete in multiple categories, showcasing the growing popularity of surfing as a competitive sport in coastal regions. Participants will represent states with active surfing communities, reflecting the sport’s expanding reach in the country.
Organisers said the championship aims to promote beach sports, encourage youth participation in adventure activities, and highlight India’s coastal tourism potential. The competition is also expected to provide a platform for emerging surfers to gain national-level exposure.
Officials added that the event will feature skill-based heats and judged performances based on international surfing standards, ensuring competitive fairness and high performance benchmarks.
