CSIR Hands Over 13 Indigenous Building Technologies to Industry on National Technology Day

New Delhi: In a significant stride toward technology-driven growth and self-reliance, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) celebrated National Technology Day by transferring 13 cutting-edge building technologies developed by the CSIR-Central Building Research Institute (CSIR-CBRI), Roorkee, to various industries and start-ups.

The event, held at CSIR Headquarters, New Delhi, showcased the institute’s commitment to bridging research and practical application, fostering innovation-led development in India.

Dr. Ajay Chaurasia, programme coordinator at CSIR-CBRI, welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of disseminating industry-oriented technologies to accelerate the nation’s growth trajectory. Prof. R. Pradeep Kumar, Director of CSIR-CBRI, said, “Transferring indigenous technologies on National Technology Day underscores the strength of India’s research ecosystem and its contribution to nation-building. This initiative aligns with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and sustainable infrastructure development.”

Technologies Transferred

The 13 technologies focus on fire safety, sustainable construction, infrastructure protection, energy efficiency, and advanced building materials, including:

  • Fire-resistant transparent intumescent coatings for wood and substitute surfaces
  • IPN coating technology for reinforced concrete structures
  • Low-carbon footprint brick manufacturing technology
  • Hybrid solar-assisted heat pump systems
  • Prefabricated high-strength steel cord reinforcement for walls

Promoting Innovation and Rural Development

The event also featured the release of a video on CSIR’s Smart Village Initiative, highlighting contributions to rural development and sustainable technologies. The CSIR-CBRI Annual Report 2025–26 was presented during the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Director General of CSIR and Secretary, DSIR, emphasized that science, innovation, and technology are key drivers of India’s progress. She noted that transferring technologies from CSIR laboratories to industry is strengthening the national innovation ecosystem and helping realize the vision of a self-reliant India. Dr. Kalaiselvi congratulated CSIR-CBRI for developing impactful indigenous technologies and translating research into solutions with societal and industrial significance.
