New Delhi, May 26: The AYUSHEXCIL and the Spices Board of India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening India’s position in global markets for traditional wellness products, herbal goods and spice-based exports.

The partnership is expected to create stronger coordination between the Ayush and spices export ecosystems, helping improve market access, product development, quality standards and international branding for Indian natural products.

Officials said the collaboration will focus on promoting India’s traditional knowledge systems in health and wellness, while also supporting exporters through joint initiatives such as trade facilitation, participation in global exhibitions and capacity-building programmes for small and medium exporters.

The MoU is also expected to help streamline certification and compliance processes, ensuring Indian products meet international quality and safety standards, which is increasingly important in highly regulated global markets.

Industry observers noted that while India has a strong global reputation in spices and Ayurveda-based products, the sector still faces challenges such as fragmented supply chains, limited branding in premium markets, and competition from other exporting countries investing heavily in herbal wellness products.

The new partnership is expected to address some of these gaps by improving coordination between stakeholders and strengthening India’s unified export strategy in the Ayush and natural products segment.

Officials added that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader goal of expanding India’s share in global wellness and organic product markets, while supporting farmers, processors and exporters across the value chain.
