Bihar Gets 11.19 Lakh New PMAY Houses with Rs 13,427 Crore Allocation

Patna: The Centre has approved 11,18,937 pucca houses for poor families in Bihar under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, with an allocation of Rs 13,427 crore, Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Thursday.

Addressing a state-level PMAY programme in Patna, Chouhan said the housing initiative was aimed at providing security and dignity to economically weaker families. He said a total of 24,30,327 houses had been approved for Bihar over the past two years, involving expenditure of Rs 29,164 crore.

The Union Minister also announced that the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana would be implemented in Bihar to provide farmers financial protection against crop losses caused by floods, drought, excessive rainfall and other natural calamities. He stressed the need to make agriculture more resilient and improve support systems for farmers.

Chouhan also highlighted initiatives for women’s economic empowerment, including plans to establish She-Marts across districts to provide marketing platforms for products made by Self-Help Groups and Lakhpati Didis. He further said Bihar had made significant progress in creating Farmer IDs, with 53.83 lakh cards already generated, which would help streamline access to government schemes and services.
