June 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has underscored Gujarat’s growing importance in India’s clean energy transformation, positioning the state as a central pillar in the country’s broader push toward renewable and sustainable development.
Speaking on the importance of accelerating India’s energy transition, the Prime Minister highlighted Gujarat’s progress in expanding solar, wind, and hybrid energy capacity, along with its emerging role in green hydrogen, battery storage, and clean technology manufacturing. He noted that the state’s policy environment, industrial base, and infrastructure readiness make it a natural leader in India’s green energy ambitions.
The emphasis on Gujarat comes at a time when India is intensifying efforts to scale up renewable energy adoption and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The state has been actively attracting investments in large-scale renewable energy parks, supporting domestic manufacturing of solar components, and developing infrastructure for clean power distribution.
Officials noted that Gujarat’s coastal geography and industrial ecosystem provide strategic advantages for renewable energy expansion, particularly in wind and solar power generation. The state is also witnessing growing participation from private players in green energy projects, further strengthening its position as a clean energy hub.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted that India’s energy transition is not only an environmental necessity but also an economic opportunity, capable of generating employment, boosting innovation, and enhancing energy security. Gujarat’s progress, he said, reflects the broader national vision of combining development with sustainability.
Experts believe that Gujarat’s leadership in renewable energy could serve as a model for other states, demonstrating how policy support, infrastructure development, and private investment can accelerate the shift toward clean energy systems.
The government continues to focus on expanding renewable capacity across the country, with particular emphasis on solar energy, wind power, green hydrogen, and energy storage solutions. These initiatives are aimed at strengthening India’s commitment to its climate goals while supporting long-term economic growth.
As India advances its green energy agenda, Gujarat is expected to remain a key contributor to achieving national targets and positioning the country as a global leader in clean energy transition
