Hungama OTT, digital entertainment platforms launched its latest original series, Mangalmukhi on 9th April 2026, a gritty crime drama that unfolds across the contrasting backdrops of Varanasi and Mumbai. Starring Ella D Verma in a powerful lead role, alongside Namish Taneja, Rati Pandey and Tanya Sharma the series blends a high-stakes murder mystery with an emotionally layered narrative of identity, dignity, and resilience.

Mangalmukhi follows the journey of Mangal, a transgender police officer who has long been ridiculed and sidelined by her department. But her life takes an unexpected turn when she finally lands her first major case, the mysterious on-camera death of a popular TV star, which pulls her from Varanasi into Mumbai’s dark entertainment underworld. What initially appears to be an accident soon spirals into a chilling investigation, forcing Mangal to fight not just for justice but for the recognition she has been denied her entire career.
Talking about her character, Ella D Verma shares,
“Mangalmukhi is not just a story about a police officer, it’s about identity, resilience, and self-belief. Her journey goes beyond gender. It’s about proving that your capabilities are not defined by how society sees you. She is sharp, resilient, and fearless, and that’s what drew me to her. Playing this character has been both emotional and empowering, and I hope audiences connect with her strength as much as I did.”
Namish Taneja adds,
“This is the first time I’ve been part of a story like this, and working closely with a transgender actress was an incredibly enriching experience. Ella is such a wonderful human and she brings remarkable depth and honesty to her performance. What stands out about Mangalmukhi is how it normalises something that should have always been normal, that talent and emotion go far beyond gender. Being part of this journey has been truly special and meaningful.”
Reflecting on her experience, Rati Pandey says,
“As an actor, Mangalmukhi challenged me in ways I had never experienced before. The series has a strong emotional pulse beneath its suspense, and that is what makes it so compelling. It is a story about being seen, being heard, and finding the courage it takes to claim your identity in a world that often refuses to see you.”
Tanya Sharma, shares,
“What I found most interesting about my character is how she is navigating fear, uncertainty, and pressure while being a part of this intense situation. She is someone who gets pulled into circumstances beyond her control, and that makes her journey very real and relatable. Mangalmukhi is not just about the mystery, it’s about the people within it, and how they cope with everything happening around them.”
