Mumbai, June 1: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has initiated its 2025–26 Annual Survey on Computer Software and Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) exports, aimed at assessing the performance and structure of India’s fast-growing digital services export sector.
The survey will collect detailed information from companies engaged in software development, IT-enabled services, and business process outsourcing (BPO). It will cover key aspects such as export volumes, service categories, destination markets, and business models adopted by Indian IT firms operating in global markets.
Officials said the exercise is an important part of India’s external sector data system, helping in the compilation of balance of payments statistics and providing insights into the country’s services export competitiveness.
The findings of the survey are expected to help policymakers and industry stakeholders understand evolving trends in software and ITES exports, including the growing role of digital services, global capability centres, and remote service delivery models.
The RBI has been conducting this annual exercise to strengthen data accuracy and improve the understanding of India’s services export ecosystem, which remains a key driver of the country’s overall export performance.
The survey also supports broader analysis of India’s position in global technology services, where software exports continue to account for a significant share of total services trade.
