IIT Mandi launches India’s first IIT B.Tech programme in Quantum Science and Engineering

Mandi, June 08: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi, one of India’s leading IITs, has announced the launch of three innovative undergraduate programmes aimed at preparing students for emerging technology-driven industries and national development priorities.

IIT Mandi launches India's first IIT B.Tech programme in Quantum Science and Engineering

The newly introduced programmes are:

1. B.Tech in Quantum Science and Engineering

2. B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering with Data Analytics

3. B.Tech in Chemical Engineering with Data Analytics

IIT Mandi takes a big step by introducing India’s first B.Tech in Quantum Science and Engineering. This program aims to develop future quantum engineers through a blend of quantum computing, communication, sensing, materials, and hardware engineering, along with computer science, math, and AI. Upon graduation, these students will be primed to impact fields like secure communications, quantum hardware, and advanced computing – key areas in the emerging quantum tech world.

Recognizing the increasing prominence of agriculture technology, IIT Mandi has now started B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering with Data Analytics. The programme combines the fundamentals of agricultural engineering with artificial intelligence, machine learning, IoT, remote sensing, automation, and data analytics. Students will be exposed to practical training using laboratories, field training, internships, research projects and collaborations with agri-tech companies and startups. The aim is to produce technology know-how professionals who can contribute to the future of precision agriculture, sustainable agriculture and climate resilient food systems.

Building upon its growing interdisciplinary academic footprint, IIT Mandi offers B.Tech in Chemical Engineering with Data Analytics, under the aegis of the School of Chemical Sciences. The curriculum of the programme integrates the basics of Chemical Engineering with computational modelling, process simulation, machine learning and data science. The curriculum offers flexibility of choice to students through the opportunity of pursuing a minor and double major in any engineering, science, humanities or management discipline to explore broader career domains.

IIT Mandi has made a commitment to the future with these programmes that provide students with an education based on engineering principles, applied technology and experience through experiential learning.

The alumni of these programmes will have careers in industry, research, entrepreneurship, higher education and innovation-led sectors worldwide.

More about these programmes can be found at IIT Mandi’s admissions portal.
