‘MS Harmony’ Statewide Initiative for Invisible Disabilities Launched in Kochi

Kochi, June 1 : The official state-wide launch of MS Harmony, a collective of patients and caregivers dealing with invisible disabilities that are not outwardly apparent, such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO), MOGAD, and Myasthenia Gravis (MG) was held at the IMA House, Kaloor, Kochi. Prominent people’s representatives and medical experts from the healthcare sector participated in the event, which was organized in connection with World MS Day. The official inauguration of the event and the unveiling of the MS Harmony logo were performed by Ernakulam MP, Hibi Eden.

In his inaugural address, Shri Hibi Eden stated that large-scale awareness is essential among the general public and policymakers regarding such invisible illnesses. He also stressed that the needs to allocate more funds to schemes under the Kerala Social Security Mission (KSSM) to ensure uninterrupted access to medicines and treatment support for more patients.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Joseph Sunny, Secretary, All India Occupational Therapists’ Association and the Patron of the MS Harmony group demanded that the procedures for obtaining disability certificates be made fully online and simplified, similar to the mechanisms implemented during the COVID-19 period. He noted that this would help neurological patients with invisible conditions access their eligible benefits without any hassles.

“Beyond merely ensuring treatment aid, the ultimate goal of MS Harmony is to transform Kerala into India’s first ‘Invisible Disability Friendly State’ through structural policy modifications and continuous efforts,” stated the office bearers. MS Harmony President Dipu T. Thomas reaffirmed this vision as the core objective of the initiative.
