May 25: The West Bengal government has initiated a new identification system for public healthcare personnel by introducing colour-coded identity cards for different categories of staff across the state’s healthcare network.

The move aims to streamline identification, improve workplace coordination, and enhance administrative efficiency within government hospitals and healthcare institutions.

Under the new system, healthcare workers will be assigned ID cards differentiated by colour based on their roles and responsibilities. Officials said this will help in easy recognition of staff categories and support better management of healthcare services at the institutional level.

The initiative is expected to strengthen monitoring mechanisms, reduce administrative confusion, and improve overall service delivery in public health facilities. Authorities believe the system will also contribute to smoother coordination among medical teams and support staff.

The state health department stated that the measure is part of ongoing efforts to modernise healthcare administration and improve operational transparency across government medical institutions.
