Centre to Hold Hyderabad Roadshow on Coal Gasification, Highlights Major Incentive Push

Hyderabad, June 10: The Ministry of Coal, Government of India, will organise a major roadshow in Hyderabad on June 11, 2026, to promote surface coal and lignite gasification projects as part of its national push toward cleaner and more efficient utilisation of domestic coal resources.

The event will spotlight the Government’s ₹37,500-crore incentive scheme aimed at accelerating coal and lignite gasification in the country, with a target of gasifying 100 million tonnes of coal by 2030. The initiative is designed to encourage large-scale adoption of gasification technologies and attract participation from industry leaders, technology providers, and investors.

Coal gasification converts coal and lignite into synthesis gas (syngas), which can be further processed into cleaner fuels and valuable chemicals such as hydrogen, methanol, ammonia, and synthetic natural gas. The Centre views this technology as a key lever for enhancing energy security, reducing import dependence, and enabling a transition toward lower-emission industrial processes.

The Hyderabad roadshow will bring together senior officials from the Ministry of Coal, public sector undertakings, industry stakeholders, and research institutions. Discussions will focus on investment opportunities, policy frameworks, technological advancements, and implementation pathways for scaling up gasification projects across the country.

The Government has been actively promoting coal gasification as part of its long-term strategy to unlock value from domestic coal reserves while supporting industrial growth and energy diversification.

The event is expected to serve as a key platform for fostering collaboration between government and industry, reinforcing India’s commitment to advancing cleaner coal technologies and achieving its national energy and industrial objectives.
