Jan Dhan Accounts Rise to 58.15 Crore, Deposits Cross INR 3 Lakh Crore

New Delhi, June 8: The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) continues to strengthen financial inclusion in India, with the total number of bank accounts under the scheme reaching 58.15 crore and cumulative deposits surpassing ₹3 lakh crore.

Officials noted that the programme has significantly expanded access to formal banking services, particularly among rural households, women, and economically weaker sections. The initiative has enabled millions of citizens to open zero-balance accounts and participate in the formal financial system.

The scheme has also played a crucial role in facilitating direct benefit transfers (DBT), ensuring timely and transparent delivery of government subsidies and welfare benefits to eligible beneficiaries.

Financial inclusion experts highlight that the steady rise in deposits reflects growing trust in the banking system and increased savings behaviour among account holders.

The government reiterated its commitment to further deepening financial inclusion through enhanced banking infrastructure, digital financial services, and awareness initiatives across the country.

The Jan Dhan Yojana remains one of the largest financial inclusion programmes globally, contributing to India’s broader goal of inclusive economic growth.
