Tamil Nadu Prepares for Census Exercise, 1.40 Lakh Enumerators to Be Trained for Household Survey

Chennai, June 9: Tamil Nadu is preparing for a major census-related household survey exercise, with around 1.40 lakh enumerators set to be trained ahead of the statewide data collection process.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring accurate, comprehensive, and well-coordinated field-level data collection across urban and rural regions. Officials said the training programme will focus on improving data accuracy, standardising survey procedures, and strengthening digital data entry systems.

The enumerators will be deployed across districts to conduct household-level surveys covering demographic, social, and economic indicators. The exercise is expected to play a key role in supporting policy planning, welfare delivery, and resource allocation.

Authorities have emphasised the importance of systematic training to ensure consistency in data collection and to minimise errors during the survey process. Special focus will be given to digital tools and technology-enabled enumeration methods to improve efficiency and real-time monitoring.

The large-scale mobilisation reflects the administrative preparedness required for one of the most extensive data-gathering exercises in the state. Officials noted that accurate census-related data is critical for effective governance and long-term development planning.

Once completed, the survey is expected to provide updated insights into population distribution, household conditions, and socio-economic trends across Tamil Nadu.

The state government has reiterated its commitment to conducting the exercise in a transparent and efficient manner, ensuring that every household is accurately accounted for.
