Akshar 3.0 Debuts: Free iPhone Keyboard Expands Odia, Indian Language Typing with On-Device AI

A new multilingual typing solution for Indian language users has arrived with the launch of Akshar 3.0, a free iPhone keyboard that now supports Odia and 20 other Indian languages, powered by AI-driven transliteration technology running entirely on-device. The keyboard integrates IndicXlit, a multilingual transliteration model developed by AI4Bharat, enabling users to type in Roman script and instantly convert text into native Indian scripts without relying on cloud processing.

Designed for seamless multilingual communication, Akshar 3.0 allows users to type in English alphabets and view text instantly converted into scripts such as Odia, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Assamese and more. The updated keyboard reportedly supports more than 20 Indian languages and is aimed at making native language typing more accessible for iPhone users.

The keyboard leverages IndicXlit, an AI-based transliteration system capable of Roman-to-native script conversion across 21 Indic languages. Developed as part of open-source Indian language technology research, the model supports real-time transliteration and is optimized for multilingual usage. Running fully on-device enhances privacy, lowers latency, and ensures faster typing experiences without continuous internet dependence.

The launch is expected to benefit regional language users, especially those seeking easier ways to communicate digitally in languages such as Odia, where accessible typing tools remain limited. With multilingual digital adoption accelerating in India, Akshar 3.0 positions itself as a step toward more inclusive language technology on smartphones.
