CERT-In Issues Advisory on Rise in AI-Driven Cyber Activity

New Delhi, May 26: The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a fresh advisory highlighting a rapid rise in AI-powered cyber-attacks targeting individuals, businesses, and critical digital infrastructure across the country.

According to the advisory, cybercriminals are increasingly using artificial intelligence tools to design more sophisticated phishing campaigns, deepfake-based scams, and automated malware attacks that are harder to detect and prevent using traditional security systems.

Officials noted that the growing accessibility of generative AI technologies has significantly lowered the barrier for launching large-scale cyber fraud operations, enabling attackers to create highly convincing fake messages, websites, and digital identities.

CERT-In has cautioned that both public and private sector organisations are at heightened risk, especially those handling sensitive financial, personal, or governmental data. Small and medium enterprises are also being increasingly targeted due to relatively weaker cybersecurity infrastructure.

The agency has urged organisations to strengthen their cybersecurity frameworks by adopting multi-layer authentication systems, regular software updates, employee awareness training, and real-time threat monitoring solutions.

It also advised individuals to remain vigilant against suspicious emails, unknown links, and unsolicited messages that may be used for phishing or identity theft. Users have been encouraged to verify sources before sharing personal or financial information online.

CERT-In further emphasized the importance of adopting AI-based cybersecurity tools to counter emerging threats and improve early detection of malicious activities.

Authorities have reiterated that coordinated efforts between government agencies, private companies, and users are essential to build a more resilient and secure digital ecosystem in the face of evolving cyber threats.
