New Delhi, May 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni have outlined a comprehensive roadmap to deepen bilateral ties, describing their relationship as a “special strategic partnership” central to the emerging Indo-Mediterranean corridor.
Published jointly in international media outlets, the op-ed highlighted that the India-Italy partnership has entered a “decisive stage,” evolving from friendly diplomatic relations into a robust collaboration based on shared democratic values and a forward-looking vision.
The leaders emphasized collaboration in trade, energy, technology, and strategic connectivity, aiming to combine Italy’s industrial and manufacturing strengths with India’s economic scale, innovation ecosystem, and engineering talent. They set a target of EUR 20 billion in bilateral trade by 2029, focusing on sectors such as defence, aerospace, clean energy, pharmaceuticals, textiles, tourism, and emerging technologies including AI, quantum computing, and advanced manufacturing.
The op-ed also noted that over 1,000 Indian and Italian companies are now operating across both markets, strengthening supply chains and fostering Europe-Asia integration.
The strategic vision underscores both nations’ commitment to innovation-driven growth, energy transition, and global collaboration, marking a significant milestone in India-Italy relations.
