Mumbai, August 17: BSE Clearing Ltd has introduced three-day contracts under its Securities Lending and Borrowing (SLB) segment, a move aimed at providing market participants with greater flexibility for short-term securities lending and borrowing.
The new contracts are designed to cater to traders and investors seeking shorter-duration opportunities to borrow securities, particularly for meeting short-term delivery requirements and implementing trading strategies.
The introduction of three-day SLB contracts is expected to enhance the efficiency of the securities lending market by offering participants an additional contract duration alongside existing options. It could also help improve liquidity and facilitate more efficient price discovery in the securities lending segment.
Securities lending and borrowing enables investors to lend securities to other market participants for a specified period in return for a lending fee. Borrowers can use the securities for various market activities, including short selling and meeting delivery obligations.
The shorter contract tenure is expected to provide greater flexibility to market participants and potentially encourage wider participation in the SLB market.
The move comes as exchanges and market infrastructure institutions continue to develop mechanisms aimed at deepening India’s securities lending ecosystem and improving the overall efficiency of capital markets.
BSE Clearing, a wholly owned subsidiary of BSE Ltd, provides clearing and settlement services for transactions conducted on the exchange.
