New Delhi, May 13: The Union Government has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for 14 kharif crops for the 2026–27 marketing season, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring remunerative returns for farmers and strengthening rural income security.

The decision was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP).

Enhanced income support for farmers

The revised MSP structure aims to ensure fair compensation to farmers, with prices set at a margin of at least 50% over the cost of production for major kharif crops. The move is intended to protect cultivators from market volatility and input cost pressures.

Encouraging crop diversification

The government said the MSP revision is also designed to encourage diversification towards pulses, oilseeds, and other nutritionally important crops, helping reduce import dependency and improve agricultural sustainability.

Support for rural economy

Officials noted that the increase will provide stronger price assurance ahead of the upcoming procurement season, benefiting millions of farmers across the country. It is also expected to improve rural purchasing power and support broader agricultural growth.

Policy objective

The MSP revision reflects the government’s continued focus on farmer welfare, income stability, and strengthening the agricultural economy, while ensuring balanced growth across key kharif crops.

The updated MSP rates will be applicable for the upcoming 2026–27 procurement cycle.
