Highlighting India’s progress in integrating renewable energy into the agriculture sector, the Prime Minister noted that solar-based irrigation systems are improving energy efficiency, reducing dependence on diesel, and enhancing income stability for farmers.
India has been actively promoting solar irrigation through various initiatives, including the PM-KUSUM scheme, which supports the installation of solar pumps and decentralized solar energy systems for agricultural use.
Officials and experts say that solar-powered agriculture offers multiple benefits, including reliable daytime electricity for irrigation, reduced operational costs, and lower carbon emissions. The model is increasingly seen as a practical solution for countries facing energy access and agricultural productivity challenges.
The Prime Minister emphasized that this approach can be adapted and scaled in African nations, many of which share similar climatic conditions and strong solar potential. He added that collaboration in renewable energy and agriculture can strengthen South-South cooperation and support sustainable development goals.
India’s experience in expanding solar capacity and deploying farmer-centric clean energy solutions is being viewed as an example of how innovation and policy support can transform traditional farming systems into climate-resilient models.
