PM wants to unlock India but Indians want lockdown 5.0

A few days into the Unlock 1.0 announced by the government, 65% of Indians want the lockdown to be implemented again as per the survey conducted by Public, a homegrown video-sharing app. Over 3.95 lakh people from more than 250 cities across eight states of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh, participated in the survey.

When asked whether they would like to have another lockdown in their city, 69% of Delhiites want the lockdown back, given the increasing number of cases in Delhi in the last few days. Similarly, 66% people in Bihar, 78% in Chhattisgarh, 73% in Haryana, 67% in Jharkhand, 63% in Madhya Pradesh, 65% in Rajasthan and 61% in Uttar Pradesh have voted in favour of another lockdown.

A similar survey conducted in the last week of May had revealed that around 60 percent people in India were not happy with relaxations that the government had announced in the fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown. The survey also showed that with the increasing case tally of infections daily, 11 percent people estimated that the number of active COVID-19 cases would be more than 5 lakhs by June end.

The total number of active COVID-19 cases across the nation stand at 1,55,227 as on date.

Amid COVID breakdown and ensued lockdown in the country, the Public app saw a surge in the userbase to 30 million in the last two months, and it is also being used by politicians and local authorities to communicate with citizens.
