New Delhi, June 16: The Government has clarified reports regarding the suspension of the new Cell Broadcast Alert System, stating that the implementation is currently under review and has not been permanently discontinued.
Officials explained that the system, designed to deliver real-time emergency alerts directly to mobile phones during disasters and critical situations, is undergoing technical evaluation and phased testing to ensure reliability, scalability, and seamless integration across telecom networks.
According to authorities, the temporary pause in expansion is part of a routine assessment process aimed at strengthening system performance, improving message delivery accuracy, and ensuring coordination among stakeholders, including telecom service providers and disaster management agencies.
The government reiterated that public safety remains the highest priority and that any national-level alerting infrastructure must meet stringent standards before full-scale deployment. Necessary refinements are being made based on field feedback and technical trials conducted in select regions.
Officials also emphasized that emergency communication systems continue to operate through existing channels, and there is no disruption in disaster warning mechanisms currently in place.
Once the review process is completed, the Cell Broadcast Alert System will be expanded further in a phased manner to enhance nationwide emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
The government urged citizens and media outlets to avoid speculation and rely on verified official updates regarding the status of critical public safety systems.
