Akshaya Patra Foundation Provides Rapid Relief to Flooded Wayanad Communities

Bangalore, 06th August, 2024 – In the wake of devastating floods and landslides that have swept through the Wayanad district of Kerala, the Karnataka-based Akshaya Patra Foundation has initiated a major relief operation to support the affected communities. This collaborative effort highlights the government’s commitment to social welfare and ensures that immediate aid reaches those in desperate need.

The Foundation has already distributed 1,000 grocery kits in the flood-ravaged areas and is preparing to deliver an additional 9,000 kits in the coming days. Each kit contains essentials such as boiled rice, atta chakki, desi chana, edible oil, sambar powder, turmeric powder, sugar, salt, biscuits, and ORS packets. These kits are calculated to provide 42 nutritious meals, sustaining a family of three for up to a week, underscoring the Foundation’s and the Government’s joint efforts to address food security amidst crisis.

St. Joseph’s Convent School, Kalpetta, has become the hub of these operations, with the distribution being managed under the vigilant oversight of local authorities, including the Deputy Collector, ensuring the aid reaches those most in need efficiently and effectively.

Expanding its relief efforts, The Akshaya Patra Foundation is also exploring options to provide cooked meals, further bolstering support for the affected individuals. The team is hands-on in all aspects of logistics, from unloading supplies to the final distribution, affirming a seamless execution of this crucial initiative.

Sri Chanchalapathi Dasa, Vice-Chairman of The Akshaya Patra Foundation, said, “Amid these trying times, our resolve to aid afflicted families remains unwavering. With the substantial backing from the state government and the heartfelt contributions of our donors, we aim not just to meet immediate needs but also to instill hope in those facing these dire circumstances,”

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is committed to leveraging its vast kitchen infrastructure and national volunteer network to deliver food assistance and humanitarian aid across disaster-stricken regions in India. Through ongoing collaborations with state and central governments, the foundation is poised to augment its capabilities to meet the urgent needs of affected communities with effective relief and recovery efforts.
