Odisha Govt School Students Struggle Amid Textbook Shortage, Forced to Depend on Photocopies

Bhubaneswar, 2 June (BNP): Students studying in government schools across Odisha are facing serious academic difficulties as many are yet to receive official textbooks for the ongoing academic session, disrupting classroom learning and daily studies.

The problem has reportedly affected students from Class 1 to Class 6, with several schools witnessing irregular distribution of books. While some students have received only a limited number of textbooks, many others are still waiting for complete sets, forcing them to rely on photocopied materials and old books to continue lessons.

Parents and teachers have expressed concern over the delay, stating that the absence of proper study materials is affecting children’s learning at the beginning of the academic year. In several areas, students are reportedly sharing books or using xerox copies arranged by schools and guardians to keep up with classroom teaching.

Taking note of the issue, the School and Mass Education Department has assured that steps are being taken to resolve the shortage at the earliest. The School and Mass Education Minister said efforts are underway to ensure timely supply of textbooks so that students can continue their studies without disruption.
