Bengaluru, 13 October 2025: CBM India organized an Eye Screening Camp and Awareness Program at SRN Adarsh College, Bengaluru, highlighting the importance of eye health and the need to address challenges posed by vision impairment and blindness. The program encouraged students and faculty to prioritize their eye health and advocate for accessible, inclusive eye care services.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness about preventive eye care, enable early identification of vision-related issues, and promote inclusion in eye health, especially for persons with disabilities and members of other marginalized groups. Participants, primarily students with speech and hearing impairment along with other students and college staff, benefitted from free eye screenings and interactive sessions covering healthy vision habits, the importance of timely intervention, and preventive measures. Many also took a pledge to support accessible eye health services, reinforcing a shared commitment to inclusive healthcare within the campus community.
Mr. Sony Thomas, Executive Director, CBM India, said, “At CBM India, we believe good vision is a fundamental part of health and quality of life. The program at SRN Adarsh College brought preventive care, early detection, and the message of inclusion directly to young people. By empowering students and staff with knowledge and access to screenings, we hope to inspire lifelong habits that prioritize vision and ensure individuals seek the care they need.”
Dr. S. Prashanth, Principal, SRN Adarsh College, added, “We are delighted to partner with CBM India for this Eye Screening Camp and Awareness Program. The well-being of our students and faculty is a top priority, and initiatives like this strengthen our commitment to a health-conscious campus community. By engaging in screenings and awareness sessions, students are learning to value their vision as an integral part of their overall growth and academic success.”
As part of its inclusive eye health programs and in observance of World Sight Day, CBM India is also facilitating eye screening camps in schools and communities, conducting training and awareness sessions for ASHA workers, and distributing spectacles across several states throughout the month, aiming to reach over 14,000 people. These initiatives are advancing inclusive eye care that is accessible, available, and affordable for all.
