Assam Targets INR 10 Lakh Crore Economy by 2028: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Guwahati, May 26: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that the state government is working towards transforming Assam into a ₹10 lakh crore economy by 2028, driven by sustained development, investment growth and policy reforms.

Speaking during the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address in the Assam Assembly, the Chief Minister said the recent election mandate reflects public confidence in the NDA government’s agenda of peace, stability and economic progress.

He noted that the ruling alliance’s performance in the elections demonstrated strong voter support, with the NDA securing a significant share of both seats and votes across the state.

Highlighting governance priorities, Sarma said the government remains focused on accelerating economic expansion through infrastructure development, industrial growth, and improved investment climate, with the goal of positioning Assam as a major economic hub in the region.

He also referred to legislative initiatives such as the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill, stating that reforms undertaken by the government are aimed at ensuring greater social justice and strengthening rights, particularly for women across communities.

Officials said the state’s long-term strategy includes boosting employment generation, attracting private investment, and expanding key sectors such as energy, manufacturing, tourism, and services to achieve the ambitious economic target.

The Chief Minister reiterated that Assam’s development roadmap is aligned with inclusive growth and long-term prosperity for all sections of society.
