SAIoneer Dhriti Appointed to United Nations Youth Group on Nuclear Disarmament

New Delhi, 13th August 2025: SAI International School proudly announces that Dhriti Moksha Panigrahi, a 13-year-old climate and peace advocate and a Grade VIII student of the school, has been appointed to the prestigious United Nations Youth Group on Nuclear Disarmament, formed under the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO). Dhriti is a trailblazer in youth-led climate action and nuclear disarmament advocacy. She has made remarkable contributions to environmental activism since the age of 6. She is the only student from Odisha to be selected as part of this global youth group. Dhriti earned this recognition after applying for the program in September 2024, showcasing her deep commitment to peace, sustainability, and nuclear disarmament.

She is also a core member of the Earth Again Movement and The Child Movement, advocating for climate justice, disaster risk reduction, and the protection of children’s rights. Over the years, she has continued her journey as a changemaker, having conducted several environmental awareness drives and clean-up campaigns across Bhubaneswar, Rourkela, Parlakhemundi and the western cities of Odisha, inspiring hundreds of young people to join the movement for a cleaner and greener planet.

On this proud occasion, Dr. Silpi Sahoo, Chairperson, SAI International Education Group, expressed immense pride at Dhriti’s global recognition: “Dhriti is not just a student of SAI International; she is a symbol of what empowered education can achieve. Her appointment to the UN Youth Group on Nuclear Disarmament is a beacon of hope and proof that young voices, especially from rural India, can shape global dialogues. We are immensely proud of her courage, conviction, and commitment to peace and sustainability.”

Speaking on her appointment, Dhriti shared: “I’m deeply honoured to be part of this global initiative. I hope to amplify the voices of children and youth from rural and vulnerable regions, advocating for a world that is peaceful, just, and safe for all.” She also shared that if given a chance, she would start a movement like a cleanliness drive in and around the schools of Odisha, encouraging students to take greater responsibility for their surroundings and to promote a clean, green learning environment. Her vision reflects the spirit of grassroots leadership and the belief that change begins at home.

Dhriti’s achievement is a significant moment not just for SAI International School but also for Odisha and India, showcasing the powerful role young changemakers can play on the world stage. This achievement reinforces SAI International’s dedication to nurturing compassionate leaders and global citizens committed to creating a better future.
