Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj on Monday said discussions have already been held with the concerned departments and officials, and the government will announce its decision at the appropriate time.

The minister made the remarks while speaking to reporters during the convocation ceremony at Sambalpur University, clarifying that the proposal is not limited to a single institution but covers universities across the state.

Statewide Exercise Under Consideration

“It’s not just about Sambalpur University; it’s about all the universities of Odisha. Discussions have already taken place with the concerned departments and officials. We will make the announcement at the right time,” Suraj said.

His statement is being viewed as the clearest indication yet that the state government is actively considering the restoration of student union elections after consultations within the Higher Education Department.

No Election Schedule Yet

While the government has confirmed that internal discussions are progressing, no election schedule or implementation timeline has been announced.

Officials said the final decision will be communicated after the consultation process is completed.

The proposed revival of student elections is expected to impact universities across Odisha, with the government expected to outline the roadmap once the ongoing deliberations are finalised.
