Surmandal and Telangana Tourism’s Hindustani Classical recital held JNAFAUHyderabad, June 24, 2024: Ronkini Gupta, versatile vocalist and mainstream cinema and three-time Filmfare nominee enthralled city classical music lovers in her maiden performance in the city on Sunday evening at JNAFAU, Masabtank.

Known as AR Rahman’s favourite classical musician, Ronkini Gupta began her performance with Rag Bhimpalasi. Suppressed longing of a lover, but serene with dignity and yet throbbing with deep emotion, this raga depicts Shringar Rasa

Her second rendition was a brandish (bandish is a lyrical or the literary part of the raga) about rain and welcoming it. On my arrival, somebody said if you are coming from Mumbai, please bring some barish(rain) along with you. That is why I am rendering this brandish, she said.

She rendered many rags as well as her compositions.  Some of them include Raaga Raag Bhimpalasi

The Hindustani Classical Recital was organised by Surmandal in association with Telangana Tourism, the Government of Telangana. It was organised at Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU) Masabtank on Saturday evening. About 200 classical musical lovers attend it.

With over 25 years of music training, Ronkini Gupta is an accomplished vocalist.  Maestro AR Rahman has often called her his favourite classical musician.  She is a three-time Filmfare nominated for best female playback singer for her chartbusters “Rafu’ from Tumhari Sulu and Chaav Laaga’ from the film ‘Sui Dhaaga’.  The third song ‘Tula Zapnaar Aahe’ won her the Zee Talkies–Maharashtra’s favourite singer award in 2020.  She was recently honoured with the Swar Kokila Lata Mangeshkar Award.  She performed in many prestigious festivals across India.

Rohini Gupta was accompanied by Ashish Ragwani on Table and Deepak Marathe on Harmonium.  Ashish Ragwani accompanied stalwarts like Shri Anup Jalota, Pt. Ravichari, Shri Ashwin Srinivasan and others.  He has been part of many festivals. He is a child prodigy.  Deepak Marathe accompanied renowned musicians like Pt. Jayteerth Mevundi, Padmashree Hariharan, Ustad Rashid Khan, Anup Jalota and many others.

Two local Tampora artists also joined in her performance.

Siddharth, Nagesh, Narender, Gajendar Shewalkar and other joined with Ronkini in lamp lighting before beginning the concert.
