India Reaffirms Strong Focus on Maternal and Child Healthcare: Health Minister

New Delhi, May 20: India remains firmly committed to strengthening maternal and child health outcomes, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda said on Wednesday, reiterating the government’s focus on improving healthcare access and reducing preventable deaths.

He highlighted that ongoing public health initiatives are aimed at enhancing maternal care, ensuring safe childbirth, and improving child nutrition and immunization coverage across the country. The government continues to work with states to strengthen primary healthcare systems and expand last-mile delivery of essential health services.

Nadda noted that targeted interventions and sustained policy support have played a key role in improving health indicators in recent years. The emphasis, he said, remains on ensuring equitable healthcare access for women and children, particularly in rural and underserved regions.

Officials added that continued investment in healthcare infrastructure and awareness programs will be critical to achieving long-term public health goals in the maternal and child health segment.
