New Delhi, May 19: The National Highways Authority of India (National Highways Authority of India) is set to introduce Odisha’s first eco-friendly “Bee Corridor” across three districts, marking a shift towards ecological conservation in highway landscaping.
The initiative moves beyond traditional ornamental plantation along highways and focuses on creating a pollinator-friendly ecosystem. It is aimed at supporting honeybee populations and other pollinators that play a crucial role in agriculture, horticulture, and maintaining ecological balance.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, declining pollinator populations pose a growing risk to food production systems and biodiversity. The Bee Corridor project is part of a broader effort to integrate environmental sustainability into national infrastructure development.
The project will feature vegetation designed to attract and sustain pollinators, contributing to improved ecological connectivity along highway stretches while enhancing environmental resilience.
Further details regarding implementation timelines and specific locations across the three districts are expected to be shared by authorities in the coming phase of the project.
