Bhubaneswar, May 19: Odisha is witnessing intense heatwave conditions, with temperatures rising sharply across several districts on Tuesday. According to data released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Jharsuguda recorded a maximum temperature of 41°C as early as 11:30 AM, indicating rapidly intensifying heat stress in the region.
Other major observations include Sambalpur and Hirakud, both registering 40°C, while Bhubaneswar recorded 37.6°C. Rourkela reported 37°C, and Balasore and Chandabali recorded 35°C each.
The western districts of Odisha continue to bear the brunt of the extreme weather, with multiple locations crossing the 40°C mark. The IMD has indicated that above-normal temperatures are likely to persist in several parts of the state over the coming days.
Authorities have advised the public to avoid outdoor exposure between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM, stay adequately hydrated, and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
Residents are urged to remain cautious and follow advisories issued by local administration and health departments as the heatwave conditions continue.
