Digital Air Travel Push: Digi Yatra Crosses 10 Crore Journeys

New Delhi, June 2: India’s Digi Yatra initiative has crossed 10 crore seamless passenger journeys, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to modernise air travel and enhance passenger convenience through digital innovation.

The app-based, biometric-enabled boarding system has been widely adopted across major airports, enabling passengers to move through various airport checkpoints without repeatedly showing physical documents. The system uses facial recognition technology to create a contactless and faster travel experience.

Officials said the milestone reflects the growing acceptance of digital public infrastructure in India’s aviation sector and highlights the success of initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, reducing congestion, and enhancing the overall passenger experience.

Launched as part of the government’s broader vision to build a technology-driven aviation ecosystem, Digi Yatra is designed to streamline passenger processing from entry gates to boarding, significantly reducing waiting time at airports.

The initiative aligns with India’s wider push toward digital transformation across public services, integrating technology into everyday governance and infrastructure to improve accessibility and ease of travel for citizens.

Aviation stakeholders noted that the increasing adoption of Digi Yatra is helping airports manage rising passenger traffic more efficiently while maintaining security standards through advanced biometric verification systems.

The system has been gradually expanded across multiple airports in the country, with continued efforts underway to onboard more passengers and increase coverage in the coming years.

Officials said the achievement of 10 crore journeys underscores India’s rapid progress in building a smart, tech-enabled aviation network that prioritises speed, convenience, and passenger-centric services.

The initiative is expected to play a key role in shaping the future of air travel in India by making airport procedures more seamless, reducing manual checks, and supporting the long-term goal of a fully digital travel ecosystem.
