A workshop on ‘Waste to Wonder’ was organised for the students of Hansraj College on the Garden Committee, Haritma – the Environment Awareness Society of the College, in collaboration with Smiling Tree Foundation.
The workshop was conducted by Dr Mukesh Kwatra, founder of Smiling Tree. He had an elucidative interactive session with students of Hansraj College to impart key awareness and mobilization through skills on the issue of plastic waste and it’s recycling. Smiling Tree is an eleven year old green initiative which has been relentlessly working towards betterment of environment and motivating masses especially the younger generation to lead an eco-friendly sustainable lifestyle. They have been carrying out various environment awareness programs, anti-plastic and plantation drives. They have thus far planted nearly six and a half lakh trees in and around Delhi-NCR.
Apart from delivering key information on plastics, students were guided how used plastic bottles can be recycled into beautiful planters. Dr Kwatra said, ‘Combining knowledge with skills equips students to approach environmental issues with rectitude and pursue sustainable lifestyle.’
The main program involved making of an innovative Vertical Garden using old plastic bottles. Over a hundred such bottles were used to erect a Vertical Garden depicting ’75’ to celebrate the completion of 75 years of Hansraj College in the realm of imparting higher education. It has made significant and unparalleled contributions in terms of producing scholars, bureaucrats, intellectuals, and sportsperson serving in different domains not only in our own country but even at international levels.
