The Heathcote Women in Wine is without doubt a truly positive story amongst the challenges of COVID- 19 lockdowns. Formed in May 2020 by six dynamic women from the Heathcote region’s renowned wineries – who initially joined forces for an online session as part of Sanguine Estate’s virtual wine tastings on Facebook Live and Zoom.

“With our cellar doors closed, it was a powerful way to reconnect and find positives during lockdown and more importantly to inspire and empower women – both young and old to succeed in the traditionally male-dominated wine industry – not because we are better – but because we can!” said Jodi Marsh CEO – Sanguine Estate.

With 2020 and 2021 continuing to be challenging years for winemakers nationwide following bushfires, COVID lockdowns and China trade tensions, the Heathcote Women in Wine flourishing from each other’s support – aged in their 20s to 50s -continued their trailblazing regional Victorian winery collective – achieving more together than they could have ever achieved individually.

The many initiatives included a cellar door trail, collaborative mixed winery wine packs, Heathcote’s first ever Christmas Wine Calendar, Heathcote Women in Wine Facebook and instagram page and a collaborative dinner in Melbourne.

Celebrating the Heathcote region, the collective strives to support and celebrate not just themselves and other women in the wine industry but also the wider Heathcote region through collaborative projects.

The group comprises of six local Heathcote wineries and the women behind them: –

  • Sanguine Estate: Jodi Marsh • Vinea Marson: Maddie Marson
  • Silver Spoon Estate: Tracie Young • Munari Wines: India Munari
  • Farmer & the Scientist: Jess Dwyer • Armstead / ECK Wines: Emily Kinsman

With compelling pedigree, heritage and quality wines including 4.5, 5 star and a Top red 5-star Halliday rated winery and two wineries achieving Top Winery status in Australia by The Real Review 2020, as well as a plethora of medals and trophies from wine shows and esteemed publications such as Halliday Wine Companion.

“Not only has the coronavirus instilled a strong sense of community spirit among us, but in our case developed some lifelong business associations and friendships. I have absolutely loved working with these women who are like minded, energetic, innovative, entrepreneurial, prepared to do anything and get their hands dirty” states Jodi Marsh, CEO of Sanguine Estate.
