Bengaluru, May 28 : Playo is expanding beyond sports bookings into injury and equipment insurance, in partnership with Symbo, as organised recreational sports participation continues to grow across urban India, driving demand for affordable, activity-linked protection products among everyday players.
The platform’s injury insurance offering is priced at ₹9 per session (2-hour coverage), with approximately 1,10,000 users already purchasing injury insurance every month through the platform. The coverage, embedded directly into the booking journey, provides protection of up to ₹50,000 towards hospitalisation and medical expenses arising from sports-related injuries, enabling users to opt for coverage linked specifically to their sport and play duration.
Alongside injury coverage, Playo has also introduced equipment insurance, with rackets currently covered under the offering. The company expects to further expand the category to products such as golf gloves, cricket bats, and running shoes in the coming months.
The expansion comes at a time when organised recreational sports participation is steadily increasing across urban India, particularly in categories such as badminton, football, box cricket, pickleball, and running. As participation becomes more frequent and structured, platforms are beginning to see increasing consumer interest in low-cost, sports-specific protection products designed for non-professional players.
The development reflects how sports participation platforms are beginning to explore adjacent revenue and engagement categories beyond venue discovery and gameplay, as the broader recreational sports ecosystem continues to evolve.
Playo currently operates across 100+ cities, connecting users with venues, players, and coaches through its community sports platform. The platform sees over 600,000 games played every month, with approximately 100,000 new users joining organically and nearly 500,000 sports connections formed monthly. Currently, around 1.1 million users are active on the platform every month, with nearly 10% of monthly active users already opting for injury insurance coverage.
