Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), a leading power utility supplying electricity to a populace of 7 million in North Delhi, successfully met peak power demand of 2035 MW on Friday, the highest for this season, in its area of operations.
Tata Power-DDL is expecting the peak power demand to touch a high of 2351 MW this summer in its area of operations and for the same the company has signed power purchase agreements of up to 2500 MW, apart from contingency arrangements, through long-term and short-term arrangements. It is pertinent to mention that Delhi’s peak power demand is expected to touch 8000 MW this year.
Last year on the 23rd May, the peak power in Tata Power- DDL’s operational area was 2012 MW. As per IMD predictions, the temperature in the city is likely to increase in next few days and department might declare a yellow alert if the temperature continues to rise.
Commenting upon the same, a company spokesperson said, As the hot spell continues to cast over the capital, Tata Power-DDL successfully met the summer peak demand on 16th May at 1982 MW and 2035 MW today, the highest requirement so far in this summer season, ensuring uninterrupted power supply without any network constrain and power outages. Tata Power-DDL’s meticulous advance planning and usage of modern technologies, such as advance load forecasting and statistical & modelling techniques as well as Battery Energy Storage Systems are helping us meet the growing requirements in a seamless manner.”
