Manipal Hospital Vijayawada Inaugurates Advanced Stryker Mako Robotic Technology for Knee & Hip Replacement Surgery

Vijayawada, May 30: Strengthening its commitment to advanced orthopaedic care, Manipal Hospital Vijayawada inaugurated the state-of-the-art Stryker Mako Robotic System, a robotic-assisted technology designed to enhance precision in knee and hip replacement surgeries.

The advanced robotic platform will empower the hospital’s orthopaedics team to perform highly accurate knee replacement partially and hip replacement procedures with improved surgical planning, enhanced implant positioning, and better patient outcomes. The Mako Smart Robotics technology combines surgeon expertise with advanced planning and robotic-arm assisted precision to support personalized joint replacement procedures. Reinforcing its strong expertise in joint replacement surgeries, the orthopaedics team at Manipal Hospital Vijayawada has successfully performed 10,000+ Total Knee Replacement surgeries so far.

The Stryker Mako Robotic Technology works by using advanced imaging and robotic assistance to help surgeons perform knee and hip replacement surgeries with greater accuracy. Before the surgery, the system creates a detailed 3D model of the patient’s joint, helping the surgeon plan the procedure according to the patient’s specific condition. During surgery, the robotic arm guides the surgeon in placing the implant more precisely while the surgeon remains fully in control throughout the procedure. This technology helps improve accuracy, protect healthy bone and tissue, reduce pain, and support quicker recovery and better movement after surgery.

The robot was inaugurated by Dr. Saktimaya Mohapatra, Cluster Director, Manipal Hospitals, along with the orthopaediac team, Dr. G V Reddy; Dr. Nallamothu Jagadeesh; and Dr. Kiran Kumar Mannava.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Saktimaya Mohapatra, Cluster Director, said, “The inauguration of the Stryker Mako robotic system marks a significant milestone in advancing orthopaedic care at Manipal Hospital VijayawadaRobotic-assisted joint replacement technology allows greater precision, improved patient experience, and faster recovery, reinforcing our commitment to bringing world-class healthcare solutions to the region.”

Mr. Ramanjaneya Reddy, Hospital Director, Manipal Hospital Vijayawada, stated, “With the introduction of Mako SmartRobotics, we are elevating the standards of joint replacement surgeries in Vijayawada. This technology reflects our focus on innovation, patient safety, and clinical excellence. We are now equipped to perform a wide range of robotic-assisted surgeries under one roof. Robotic surgeries are being successfully performed across multiple specialties including Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Urology, Oncology, Orthopedics, and General Surgery, enabling greater precision, improved outcomes, and enhanced patient care.”

Dr. G V Reddy, Dr. Nallamothu Jagadeesh & Dr. Kiran Kumar, Department of Orthopedics stated, “Robotic-assisted surgery enables personalized treatment planning and accurate implant placement, which can contribute to improved mobility, reduced pain, and better long-term outcomes for patients undergoing knee and hip replacement surgeries.”

The addition of the Stryker Mako system further strengthens Manipal Hospital Vijayawada’s orthopaedic and joint replacement capabilities, offering patients access to advanced robotic-assisted surgical care closer to home.
