8th April 2025: A low-pressure system has developed in the central Bay of Bengal on Monday, following a cyclone that formed over the region on Sunday. The system is forecast to move northwest and could shift northward within the next 48 hours, affecting weather conditions in Odisha.
Starting Tuesday, districts such as Sundargarh, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Sambalpur, Debagarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar may experience scattered rainfall and light to moderate winds, with gusts ranging between 30 to 50 km/h. A yellow warning has been issued for these areas to alert residents about potential weather disruptions. Meanwhile, other parts of the state are expected to remain dry.
Meteorological forecasts predict that the impact of this system could last until April 14, with temperatures likely to drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days. On Monday, seven weather stations across the state recorded temperatures exceeding 40°C. The highest was in Angul at 42.7°C, followed by Baudh at 41.8°C, Jharsuguda at 41.6°C, Sonpur at 41.4°C, Bhavanipatna at 40.5°C, Hirakud at 40.3°C, and Sambalpur at 40°C.
While this cyclonic system may bring temporary relief from the intense heat, the predicted rainfall and drop in temperature are expected to offer some respite in the coming days. Residents are urged to stay informed about weather developments and take necessary precautions, especially in areas under the yellow warning.
