It’s the all-in-one capabilities that make UST projectors a hit in home entertainment, says Sushil Motwani

According to a TechSci Research report titled ‘Laser Projector Market – Global Industry Size, Share, Trends, Competition Forecast & Opportunities, 2029,’ the global laser projector market was valued at US$ 5.97 billion in 2023-24, and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 17.59 per cent during the forecast period from 2025 to 2029. A key factor behind this growth, as per the report, is the rising demand for high-quality display solutions across different sectors. Today’s businesses and consumers are both looking for superior visual experiences, and laser projectors offer advantages in terms of image clarity, brightness, colour accuracy, and energy efficiency compared to traditional lamp-based models.

“Laser-powered smart projection technology produces vibrant and crisp visuals on various surfaces, which makes it a strong choice for home theatres, live events, business presentations, educational use and digital signage,” says Sushil Motwani, Founder of Aytexcel Pvt. Ltd, the official India distributor for Formovie projectors.

He adds that laser projectors outperform both lamp-based projectors and LED televisions in terms of performance, reliability and long-term value. At the same time, the shift in home entertainment preferences, with more people opting for home theatres, is creating space for advanced products like Ultra-Short Throw (UST) projectors to gain popularity. This change is helping manufacturers maintain steady growth in a competitive market.

Recent studies also support this trend. A report by Statista titled ‘Home Entertainment – India ‘estimates that the number of active households in this segment will reach 28.1 million by 2029. It also predicts that household penetration, currently at 5.1 per cent, is likely to increase to 9.3 per cent during this period. Another report by Stats Market Research titled ‘India Video Projector Market Outlook and Forecast 2025’ shows that the video projector market in India, valued at US$ 345.6 million in 2024, is expected to grow to US$ 489.4 million by 2030, with a projected CAGR of six per cent.

Motwani believes this expansion in home entertainment is a direct result of broader access to online content and gaming, after the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether it is premium 4K movies, web series, or visually rich games, the demand for high-resolution, wireless smart projection systems with powerful sound has grown significantly.

According to him, premium UST projectors stand out because they offer excellent picture quality, require less space, and come with integrated technologies that are appealing to modern households. “This kind of all-in-one setup is a big advantage for users. You don’t have to buy additional soundbars or connect multiple devices just to access your favourite content,” says Motwani.

One example is the Formovie Theater Premium 4K UST projector, which can project a 150-inch screen from just a few centimetres away from the wall. It features dual 15W speakers by Bowers & Wilkins with Dolby Atmos support. It also comes with built-in Google TV and Netflix.

Another factor influencing this shift is the focus on energy efficiency. Motwani points out that laser-powered UST projectors do not rely on mercury-based high-wattage lamps, unlike traditional models. “Compared to large LED or OLED televisions, these projectors generally consume less power for the same screen size, which makes them more sustainable and cost-effective in the long run,” he concludes.
