Panerai unveils two exceptional high-complication launches at Watches & Wonders 2025

Unveiled at Watches and Wonders 2025, the Panerai Jupiterium is a monumental planetarium clock that pays homage to Galileo Galilei and the Maison’s dedication to technical innovation. Standing 86 cm tall and 75 cm wide, and weighing 110 kg, this extraordinary installation reimagines Galileo’s 1610 discovery of Jupiter’s moons through intricate horological artistry.

Guided by a manual-winding perpetual calendar movement, the Jupiterium replicates the movements of Earth, the Sun, the Moon, Jupiter, and its four Galilean moons—Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto—encircling a geocentric celestial sphere. Eight barrels, each containing a 4-meter spring, power the mechanism for 40 days, operating at 18,000 vibrations per hour. Accurate until the year 2099 and designed to function—with minimal intervention—until 9999, its perpetual calendar automatically adjusts for leap years and varying month lengths. A unique retrograde function emulates the apparent backward motion of Jupiter, achieved through a patented gear and counterweight system.

Crafted from lightweight titanium, the sphere features two hemispheres divided by the zodiacal equator, with Italy prominently centered symbolizing both Galileo’s legacy and Panerai’s Italian heritage. The celestial vault rotates once every sidereal day (23h 56m 4s), mirroring the stars’ motion from Earth’s perspective. Encased in glass atop a mahogany base, the Jupiterium’s display includes a luminous dial with Arabic numerals, stick markers, and a linear power reserve marked “40 Giorni.” The rehaut bears the engraving “Jupiterium,” while the movement is labeled “Calendario Perpetuo.”

Combining astronomical wonder and haute horlogerie, the Jupiterium is more than a timepiece—it’s a mechanical universe, echoing Galileo’s revolutionary vision through Panerai’s lens of innovation and precision.

Panerai Luminor Perpetual Calendar GMT Platinumtech™ PAM01575

Expanding Panerai’s high-end offering, the new Luminor Perpetual Calendar GMT Platinumtech™ PAM01575 blends advanced mechanics, refined aesthetics, and Italian heritage. Housed in a 44mm case crafted from Platinumtech™—a proprietary alloy that’s 40% harder and 33% heavier than gold—the watch boasts superior scratch resistance and a commanding presence on the wrist.

Its blue sapphire crystal dial offers a transparent view of the day and date disks, with luminescent hands and indexes treated with Super-LumiNova® X2 for enhanced nighttime visibility. The clean dial layout includes essential functions: hours, minutes, small seconds, date, day, 12-hour GMT hand, 24-hour sub-dial, and a day-night indicator—balancing complexity with clarity. Powered by the P.4100 calibre, an automatic movement developed over a decade by Panerai’s Laboratorio di Idee, the watch features a three-day power reserve, stored in twin barrels and wound by a gold off-centered micro-rotor. Despite its complexity, the movement remains compact at just 7mm thick.

A perpetual calendar accurate until 2399, the PAM01575 requires only minimal adjustment at the turn of each century. Uniquely, all calendar settings—including month and leap year—can be adjusted forward or backward via the crown, simplifying a complication that traditionally demands expert handling. A patented date shock protection system guards against misalignment, while a specially engineered GMT spring improves durability and smoothness when tracking a second time zone. Visible through a sapphire case back, the movement proudly displays its Italian inscription “Calendario Perpetuo.” The watch is water resistant to 5 BAR (50 meters) and tested at 25% above its rated pressure. Paired with both a blue alligator strap with vintage patina and a rubber option, the PAM01575 offers versatility and exclusivity.
