A team of faculty members from Department of Applied Physics and Department of Applied Chemistry Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences (KITS), Coimbatore along with Dr. Nitin Patel, Head Physiotherapist, BCCI has come up with an Indian Patent which is a light weight fabric electro adhesive clutch for Artificial Intelligence and IoT enabled virtual reality haptic gloves. This clutch aids in the control of finger movements to realize the virtual objects. It has wide applications in medical Haptic devices, and exosuits where the mechanical components can be replaced by electronic fabric clutches which effectively reduces the weight of existing such devices. It is a breakthrough in the electronic industry where the environmentally compatible fabric clutches are flexible, wearable, hydrophobic and work at low power. The developed clutches are cost effective, easy to assemble for applications in healthcare assistive devices to augment the differently abled persons to do their routine works at ease.
