Bhubaneswar, May 11: Odisha Chief Minister has highlighted the importance of developing an “orange economy” model to create new employment opportunities by strengthening the tourism and cultural sectors in the state.
The initiative focuses on leveraging Odisha’s rich heritage, art, crafts, festivals, and natural attractions to drive tourism-led growth. The idea is to position tourism not just as a travel industry, but as a key economic driver capable of generating large-scale jobs, especially for youth and local communities.
Officials said the approach aims to connect tourism with allied sectors such as hospitality, handicrafts, transport, and local entrepreneurship, thereby creating a wider economic impact across rural and urban areas.
The state government is also expected to enhance infrastructure, improve connectivity to tourist destinations, and promote Odisha’s cultural identity at national and international levels to attract more visitors.
Experts believe that a structured focus on the “orange economy” could help Odisha diversify its economy while tapping into its strong cultural and tourism potential for sustainable job creation.
